Help Wanted – in the woods!

The Council’s Conservation Committee is seeking some interested scouters to help with the nature and conservation efforts within the council.

A number of the long-serving members and supporters have recently phased out of scouting or are planning to do so in the not too distance future.  There is a need to bring in some new, younger scouters to take over some of the responsibilities that need to continue.  These include nature training, mentoring of camp staff nature staff, assisting with trail maintenance, developing a bio-inventory of the reservation, working to develop policy to manage the reservation forests in a sustainable way for revenue as well as for preservation, issues dealing with wildlife, and other conservation subjects.

Ideally you would have some background that would fit this type of volunteerism, but interest and desire is more important.  Some formal training might be available, as well as on-the-job training and coaching by veteran volunteers. This is a great opportunity to get involved in scouting at a different level and from a different angle than many adults have previously experienced.  You may continue to work with scouts, but you also will be doing good things for the reservation and the environment as well.

The amount of time you devote is up to you.  We are interested in whatever you can contribute.  We often do Zoom meetings, we have work days at camp throughout the year, and there are opportunities to serve for periods at summer camp.  We will work with you.  If you or someone you know would like to get involved with this type of volunteer work for the council, please contact one of the folks listed below and discuss your interest, background and availability.  We need that next generation to step up and continue to follow in the footsteps of those scouters who have done so much for so long to develop a great nature and conservation program for our great reservation.  Please give it some thought.

These scouters will be glad to discuss opportunities with you:
