Old Camp Powhatan Memorial
Across from the camp administration building, you'll see the memorial to old Camp Powhatan, which was located near Natural Bridge Station, VA. The original entrance marker, shown above, was removed from the old camp, with permission from the U.S. Forest Service.

Old Camp Powhatan first operated from 1919 to 1921 at a location that has been lost to time. It's second location, along Petites Gap Road near the Belfast Trail, lasted from 1921 to 1949. The site was near the Devil's Marble Yard, which made for an excellent day hike. It also boasted an icy-cold stream, which served as a decent-sized swimming and diving area.
